  “22” Points of HIPAA Compliance


The BlueWare Wellness Connection EMR provides Healthcare Specific Security and assists your organization with HIPAA Compliance. The 22 points of compliance in the Wellness Connection EMR:

  • All Users must be enrolled not only in the Server Security but they must also be enrolled in the Wellness Connection Security.
  • Physicians have their own security staff, which usually includes their office staff and other physicians in their group that may cover their patients.
  • Documents can be restricted in the security system to certain clearances in certain environments such as:
    • If a VIP comes into the hospital, for example a “Star” or the president of the hospital, their records can be restricted to certain security clearances.
    • Certain Patient Types can have limited user access due to the nature of the visit such as Mental Health and Substance Abuse
    • Encounters
    • Tabs
    • Report type
    • Individual Documents
    • HIV Testing
    • Optionally Req. “Access Message"
  • The Wellness Connection restricts who can fax, display and print medical records.
  • The Wellness Connection allows Terminal Access restrictions to allow certain departments’ access to a terminal only in the department they are located. (i.e. Emergency Room terminal can only be accessed from the Emergency Room, not from the maintenance terminal in the basement of the hospital).
  • There may be employees that are allowed into the Wellness Connection only during certain “Times of the Day”. The Wellness Connection restricts access from any time implemented (i.e. 8:00a–5:00p, M-F).
  • The Sign-on Screen Warnings will display a warning message that you are about to enter into secured documents. This can also be customized with the Hospitals own security and confidentiality statement.
  • When a record has been accessed for Faxing purposes you will receive an alert warning message that will print on the cover letter. These Warnings/Alerts can be customized to the customers’ requirements. (i.e. This patient record is confidential for Dr. Who only)
  • The Wellness Connection has Extensive Audit Trail capability. It includes the following:
    • Time & Date will show when someone has accessed a record.
    • The terminal accessed can be seen in the audit trail.
    • The administrator will be able to see the exact page reviewed, what terminal it was reviewed from and who reviewed it. They will also be able to see if they have printed or faxed the record.
    • Displayed, Faxed, Printed or Security Violations can be viewed.

The Administrator can do Audit Trail Query Reports to access any of the information in the Audit Trail. This gives them a detailed report of any actions going on in the Wellness Connection. This report allows them to scan for any security breaches.
